MIS purchases Container Trucks
Maxx Intermodal Systems announced today it has purchased six container trucks. The new vehicles are part of the company’s strategy to improve services and expand activities in Russia.
Mr Raf De Schutter, Managing Director of Maxx Intermodal Systems Moscow, says the vehicles will be used to deliver containers from the port of St. Petersburg. “We have access to all terminals in the port and the containers can be delivered to any location, after customs clearance.”
Better Logistics
It is believed that the new development will strengthen the position of the company on the Russian transport market. The move is said to improve logistics and provide additional benefits to customers.
Mr De Schutter says the new service is mainly aimed at supporting the company’s existing business. “The new development will enable us to save costs by integrating services,” he says. “This allows us to enhance control over the entire transport chain and provides opportunities to deliver a better quality service.”
The investment in new vehicles is seen as an important part of the company’s strategy. “For years, we have been looking for ways to increase our presence in Russia,” says Mr De Schutter. “Now, it will be possible to expand and create a more professional business environment and to attract new customers by offering a different type of service.”
Mr De Schutter is also convinced that own container trucks helps to reduce dependency on market and weather conditions. He is referring to the situation in St. Petersburg this winter, when severe weather conditions and an overall increase in import volumes led to congestion, increasing trucking rates and a general shortage of truck availability.
He says the acquisition of trucks will allow the company to reduce bottlenecks and guarantee a better price stability. “To a certain extent,” he adds, “it will be possible to avoid congestion and reduce possible delays and storage costs.”
“Altogether,” he claims, “our customers can now enjoy a more efficient delivery of their cargo.”
Green Logistics
The decision to roll out a fleet of container vehicles will also have an impact on the company’s HSE policy.
“The company has always gone to great lengths to meet the needs and requirements of its customers,” says Mr De Schutter.
“Balancing the need for ecological concerns and a more efficient delivery schedule, is complex,’ he admits. “But by operating our own vehicles, we are now in a better position to mobilize our staff members and involve our customers in our efforts to reduce CO2 emissions."
Mr De Schutter finally ensures that the company’s views on safe driving will be applied to is own drivers. “Safe driving is an important issue for the company. We believe that better planning, training and awareness, together with the appropriate use of vehicles can reduce and ultimately eliminate the number of road incidents, injuries and fatalities.”
Further Expansion
Today, the company is quite satisfied with the results of the first tests. “We are keen on further expanding this kind of service,” says Mr De Schutter. “By May 2012, we would like to operate twice as many vehicles.”
In regards to the new development, Mr Martin De Sterck, CEO of Maxx Intermodal Systems, was quoted as saying: “The current developments in Russia reflect our long-term strategy to develop and invest in asset-driven and fully-controlled logistical products. We can now provide better services to our clients and expand our activities in the country.”
